The introduction of a pandemic has introduced the need to be able to get health care remotely.  Telemedicine offers on demand remote care for all non acute needs.  Concierge doctors provide a more comprehensive level of care including full background workup, customized preventative plans, patient advocacy and more.


VACCINE ROLLOUT

Over the course of 2021, the world will see billions of people vaccinated for COVID-19.  Some countries will handle the rollout better than others, with the US having one of the most rapid rollouts of all countries so far.

New advances in pharmaceuticals. . .mRNA messenger drugs can actually teach the immune system how to fight off a virus.  Biologic medicines are specifically targeted to individuals with some prescription treatments reaching close to $1M.


FINANCIAL FALLOUT FOR HOSPITALS

The Coronavirus has led to a 50% reduction in revenues (2020) because people avoided medical facilities and elective surgeries.  Will this pent up demand mean a banner year for hospitals?  Will they close?  Part of the pandemic rescue package has been funding for hospitals.


SMART HOSPITALS

Much like digital assistants (Siri, Alexa) and body monitoring devices (Apple Watch, step counters, FitBit) have permeated our lives as individuals, more and more technology and data collection is coming to hospitals hospitals integrating these same services and features to improve overall healthcare and treatment.  These same advances will improve home healthcare for many of the same reasons.


THE IMPACT OF GOVERNMENT

The new Biden administration appears to have healthcare and health insurance among their top priorities to address.  Whether there’s an expansion of a public option for health insurance or new mandates on fair drug pricing, the next 4 years are likely to see some major changes to come.

Rapid changes in technology and trends towards customization will lead to a whole new type of health insurance plans.  Companies will become more adaptable with their coverage, allowing people to customize the coverage in the form of low or no deductibles, unlimited doctor networks and individualized prescription plans, among others.

More and more companies will place a focus on improving the claims process.  Whether it’s streamlining setting up new coverage with providers or fixing mis-billed claims, individuals should see less billing errors and have better experiences when using their new coverage for the first time.
